For a long time I wanted to photograph the Plains of Castelluccio, and the best time seems to be when the lentils flower, at the end of June or the beginning of July.

For the past few year I’ve missed it, and despite arriving in Italy at the end of July, this year I decided I would just go there and hope for the best, so I left home in the middle of the night to get there in time to catch the stars.

There is something magic about witnessing the night fading away to make space for a new morning.

The gentle awakening of society starting with a single person getting on with his daily work and one by one as the light becomes stronger others appears.

And like every day, life begins again…
